I wish I was still in school.” At that time that was really how I felt. But when I listen back to it… I’m more confident now. I just got my mother into a nice apartment. And she just got surgery and she’s healthy. And my friends all have money and they’re getting their own places. I can’t do another album about wanting to go backwards. If I do that, people are going to be like, “Man, f— you! Tell me what’s real. Tell me what’s good about this s—. Make me want to chase this. Let me know the ups and downs of this shit for real. Don’t tell you about what you miss.” That’s why I came back [to Toronto], so I couldn’t say, “I miss Toronto.” I have one song that’s sort of about that, but this album isn’t about missing anything. This album is about living it and owning it and letting you know exactly what I go through. It’s not Drake on So Far Gone and it’s not Drake on Thank Me Later. I can’t go back to the old me. It’s impossible. I’m proud of who I’ve evolved into, for sure.

I really hope that there’s people who sit with the music and drive to it and just really soak it in—not just run back to the computer and demand more. Less writing and more music. The only person I really wrote with is Abel. We have a bond with words. Getting the right words is like a euphoric feeling. There are a lot of records that we collaborated on. With Stevie it was a musical thing. I had a song that’s very powerful, it’s called “Doing It Wrong,” and Stevie boosted it to another level. 40 produced it, but Stevie has a solo on it that he plays. It’s a great piece of music.

How have you been? Getting ready for interviews? I think it's important to know what to say, and say the right thing. Oct. 24th is only a month and a half away.
Well, I was going to say that I like all the answers Drake gave. I admire the honesty, and even the tougher tmi questions seemed to go well, but I always weary because some interviewers make their career by killing an artist's career.
This interviewer likes to make sympathy by dwelling on the negative, the what-if-your-fans- (after Take Care album) don't-like-your-music anymore? Are you really sorry for being rich and famous? They are going to give you hell about the singles that were leaked. Stevie Wonder questions are a given. Universal upset over the leaked singles? Is that leading to a hopeful negative answer?

I had a celebrity at my house on Saturday (one of the Crosby's - an extremely crazy, but talented family). This one, other than Bing, was probably one of the more talented family members.

"Where do you get your inspiration?"
His answer
Inspiration is a joke. With artwork it's a matter of chance, and there's no telling what the end result will be. The art makes it's self.
When he writes a song, he does it within minutes. He sings it immediately or else the moment will pass and he will lose the thought (3 minutes). Sounds crazy? How does anyone work that fast? Idk! :) I guess the Crosby's do? That was his answer... When you paint, you don't know you're going to paint a cheetah with purples spots, it just ends up that way. A real painter uses vigor, paints fast and energetically. There is no inspiration, it's just a matter of chance.
Each person follows their own path. Drake follows his own path. Wayne follows his own path. Nicki follows her own path, and you can't change the person's path even if they are going the wrong way, it's still their destiny. Each artist will have their own destiny.
Interviews are tough... I hope that helps. No one is perfect, but your work is about as close to perfection as a person can get. I think you should be proud of all your hard work regardless if people like it or not, it's still brilliant because it's you.
