On August the 5th 2009 I was arrested for DUI and driving without a valid license. There was no traffic collusion, I was pulled for making a wrong turn. I fully cooperated with the police and submitted to a breath test a reading of .15 percent. It was possible for two readings. This was a serious judgement error on my part, one which I very much regret.
I was not aware that my license was not valid at the time of incident as I was not received from the DMV. My license was expired and I failed to renew it.
When I attended court, I accepted responsibility and plead no contest to driving with a .08% or above. The charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, and driving on a suspended license was dismissed by the court. I was given the typical penalties for a first time offender of a DUI including a fine, some community labor, and alcohol class and attendance at a Hospital and morgue class. At the time of my sentence I was working on my bachelor’s degree. I had financial difficulties and no transportation and I experienced difficulties completing my court penalties. It was a tough time for me. However, I eventually got through it, and my case was closed on July 26, 2011.
It took me awhile to get back on my feet after this incident, but I was eventually able to reinstate my license and put this regrettable lapse of judgement behind me.
I graduated from Mount St. Mary’s university on May 16th, 2009. I enrolled in Santa Monica City College and University of phoenix eventually earned my bachelors in December 2014.
Since the incident I have been a responsible driver. I learned not to drink any alcohol and drive. I have shared my experience with friends and family and I have tried to educate my friends never to put themselves in this position. I treat DUIs very seriously and will never put myself in this situation ever again.
In regards to the failure to report that I had a “Criminal Record” on the LACUSC live scan. I was unaware that my DUI traffic violation and “Misdemeanor” was considered a “Criminal Record”. I told the clerk that called me to tell me that I was approved for further hiring process review that I was okay when I told her that I had a DUI. I told the clerk that approved me for the hiring process that I had a DUI. However, in the live scan check I was not aware that the “Misdemeanor” was considered a “Criminal Record”.
